Intercare Myofascial Active Release Technique or simply ISMART incorporates the use of stainless-steel instruments to aid the clinician in the detection and treatment of soft-tissue dysfunction.
A soft tissue injury means that there is damage in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or myofascia, the most common one we know is a strain or a sprain.
When we have an accident, the body reacts quickly and forms a “scar tissue” to patch up the injured area. This scar tissue is less flexible than a normal tissue, and usually causes problems over time. The physicians use the tools to break up the scar tissue, and re-start the body’s healing process. This gives freedom to the connective tissue and fascia to glide and return to their natural state.
The treatment is most effective when using the tools in combination with stretches, and specific therapeutic exercises to rehabilitate the body.
What conditions can be treated by ISMART?
- Neck pain.
- Lower, middle and upper back pain.
- Shoulder pain.
- Elbow pain.
- Knee pain.
- Ankle pain.
- Sport injuries.
What is the Typical Patient Progression?
First Session: Soft-tissue evaluation and gentle treatment.
Second Session: Implement ISMART including stretching & strengthening program.
Third Session: Modify technique to maximize response and improve functional levels.
