Intercare spearheads International Chiropractic Medical Mission

Intercare spearheads International Chiropractic Medical Mission

Intercare Chiropractic Center, the country’s leading healthcare and wellness, pain management, and sports medical group, organized the International Clinical Externship Program from August 10 to 21.

Chiropractic students from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia and International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia will participate in the two-week program composed of exposure to actual chiropractic operations, outreach medical missions, and treatment of elite and amateur athletes.

Intercare founder Dr. Martin Camara, a leading chiropractic expert, says that the externship program is an affirmation of his clinic’s expertise in the field of Chiropractic and says it is a privilege to have international universities turn to Intercare to help students hone their clinical skills and enhance their clinical experience.

Now on its fourth year, this initiative is one of Intercare’s pioneering efforts to raise the general public’s awareness and appreciation of chiropractic and other Complementary Alternative Medicine in the treatment of muscoskeletal pain and injuries through natural, non-surgical, and non-invasive methods.

At the heart of the program is the medical mission. The student volunteers provide free chiropractic evaluation and treatment for patients with musculoskeletal conditions, as well as scoliosis screening and chiropractic adjustment for children. The mission helps people who otherwise would not have been able to access chiropractic care. It also allows the students to gather data on the incidences of lower back pain, scoliosis, and other neuro-musculoskeletal conditions,” says Dr. Camara.

This year, 20 student volunteers will visit communities in Makati City; Leveriza, Manila; Naic, Cavite; and Taal and Lemery, Batangas. Also part of the mission are school visits in Taguig City and in Bagac, Bataan. Likewise, they will treat national and special athletes as well as residents of Hospicio de San Jose in the duration of the program.

Among this year’s volunteers is Matthew McClelland, a graduate student if Clinical Chiropractic from RMIT. “I decided to study chiropractic because I was inspired by numerous chiropractors and their attitude to life. It seemed like a profession in which I could make a difference to people’s lives.”

IMU Chiropractic major Wong Sou Kum shares this view and adds, “I want to help people relieve pain and suffering and assist them to achieve a greater quality of life.”
